Man City eye Atleti defender

Manchester City have been alerted to the news that Atletico Madrid could be willing to sell defender Joao Miranda in the January transfer window.

The Daily Mirror claims Los Rojiblancos would offload the Brazilian centre-back for around €25m and City are watching developments as the player has already been an alleged target for Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona.

Miranda, 30, is believed to be open to a move to the Premier League, where he would likely demand a four-year contract, and Sky Blues’ boss Manuel Pellegrini could be about to grant him his wish.

The Chilean has seen big-money signing Eliaquim Mangala struggle to adapt to the demands of the English game following a reported €40m move from Porto last summer, and needs defensive cover with Vincent Kompany having been hit by a string of injuries this term.

Miranda joined Atleti from Sao Paulo on a free transfer in July 2011 after previously representing French outfit Sochaux for one season.
