Torres not the same says Capello

Former Milan and Real Madrid boss Fabio Capello believes Fernando Torres is not the same player that left Atletico Madrid back in 2007.

However, speaking to Marca during the Globe Soccer Conference in Dubai, the Italian feels that Torres’ forthcoming loan move from Milan back to his boyhood club will see him reinvigorated by boss Diego Simeone.

“Torres has it all but he’s lost his way a bit and is struggling to score goals,” said Capello.

“It’s possible that now he doesn’t have the same strength he had before, to take the ball and run at defences.

“He’s lost the confidence he had at Liverpool and during his first spell with Atleti, but I think Simeone will make him come good.

“Torres has been a bit subdued but he’s going to rediscover what he’s lost thanks to Cholo.”

Capello also commented on the current Real Madrid team and boss Carlo Ancelotti.

“They are going to define an era. They possess a great defence, a midfield that can play good football and puts in the work, while they have forwards who can score goals at will.

“Carlo has done a great job there. There’s nothing better than instilling a sense of calm and not talking about others. The players always come first with him.”
