Atletico Madrid have confirmed that Fernando Torres is returning to the club where he started his career.
The club’s official website reports that the 30-year-old will move to the Vicente Calderon on loan until the end of the 2015-16 season, just two days after Milan agreed to sign Torres from Premier League leaders Chelsea.
Torres has spent the first half of this season on loan at the San Siro, where he has struggled with just one goal in 10 appearances, and the deal with Atleti is expected to be finalised on January 5 when the Italian transfer window opens and he has passed a medical.
The player himself could not hide his delight at returning to his boyhood club seven-and-a-half years after leaving.
“At last back home. Thanks to all that have made this dream come true,” he tweeted on Monday morning.
