Torres-Cerci swap close

Fernando Torres is just an official announcement away from becoming an Atletico Madrid player for the second time, according to reports.

The deal looked to be in doubt after Alessio Cerci was believed to have rejected joining Milan in the opposite direction – a claim which was swiftly denied by the player on his Facebook account.

Nonetheless, AS and Sky Sport Italia have now confirmed that an agreement between all parties has been reached, thus marking the end of the striker's seven-year hiatus from the Vicente Calderon.

Atleti have effectively signed Torres on the same terms as his existing arrangement with Milan, meaning he will spend the next 18 months with the Spanish champions on loan from Chelsea.

Although the transfer window does not reopen until January 1, the former Liverpool hitman is in line to debut against Atleti's arch-rivals Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey on January 7.

Cerci, meanwhile, will return to Italy, just four months into a €20m transfer, having scored just once in nine appearances for Los Colchoneros.
