‘Ronaldo will retire at Madrid’

Jorge Mendes has insisted Cristiano Ronaldo will retire at Real Madrid. "He's happy there and still has a lot to do for the club."

The super-agent cut an influential figure amidst the furore surrounding the 29-year-old's future with Los Blancos two years ago, but he believes 'the best player of all time' no longer has any reason to represent another team.

"I think he will end his career in Madrid. He's happy there and still has a lot to do for the club," he revealed to Globo Esporte.

"With all due respect to great footballers Raul [Gonzalez] and [Alfredo] Di Stefano [in the club's history], neither can compare with Cristiano Ronaldo.

"He's the best player of all time, the best athlete in history and I also think that there'll never be someone else like him. It's impossible.

"I'm sure he'll remain the best in the world for a long time, barring any physical problems."

Mendes then heaped praise on Neymar but admitted the Barcelona attacker faced the unfortunate scenario of being overshadowed as long as Ronaldo performed at the peak of his powers.

"Neymar's not Cristiano but has great quality, and I can say with absolute certainty that in the coming years he'll be among the best in the world," he added.

"He's out of luck that [his emergence] coincided with Cristiano's presence."
