Khedira keen on new Madrid deal

Sami Khedira says he is eager to negotiate an extension to his contract with Real Madrid, which expires in June 2015.

The midfielder has been plagued by injuries over the past 12 months and it was widely expected that he would be leaving the Santiago Bernabeu come next summer, with Bayern Munich a possible destination.

However, German international Khedira told Stuttgarter Nachrichten that he is ready to fight for his place in Carlo Ancelotti’s side and would like to remain with the club.

“I’m back to a good physical level so I’m confident I’ll soon get more of a chance to play.

“There are other players in my position but that’s healthy competition. If I can reach a solution with Madrid then I’ll be very happy,” said the 27-year-old.

Khedira also revealed that he would like to end his playing career with former club Stuttgart, while the newspaper asked why he never sings the German national anthem before international matches.

“Stuttgart will always be in my heart. I know they have been having a few problems, in life as well as football, but sometimes you can’t say no to certain things. Why would I close the door if the opportunity arose?

“Why don’t I sing the anthem? It’s out of respect for my second homeland, Tunisia. I don’t sing either national anthem but I did see [Jurgen] Klinsmann singing the opposing national anthem when Germany played the USA, and he’s a German.

“Maybe that would be a good option for me,” he commented.
