Santa Cruz to complete Cruz Azul move

Roque Santa Cruz is in Mexico to complete his switch from Malaga to Cruz Azul, according to El Desmarque.

The Paraguay international played his final game for the Costa del Sol outfit in the 2-1 defeat of Elche at the weekend and says he is looking forward to another challenge in his career.

“Some people think I’m playing the best football of my life and that makes me feel comfortable, so I’m happy to be able to sign for Cruz Azul,” he told reporters.

“I’m coming to Mexico because it has a very competitive League and there is a different feeling playing here, where I know there will be a lot of pressure for me to achieve success and do well.

“I’m aware Cruz Azul have had many Paraguayans over the years. I know they have played in finals and unfortunately have lost, but I hope to be able to contribute something alongside my teammates and allow them to do well.”

Malaga are expected to pocket around €500,000 from the deal for Santa Cruz, who revealed he had also received two offers from Major League Soccer but had turned them down.
