‘No Ronaldo-Platini controversy’

UEFA have clarified there is no bad blood between Cristiano Ronaldo and Michel Platini amidst the Club World Cup final handshake controversy.

The Portuguese was seen to have spurned the UEFA President's advances in the aftermath of Saturday's encounter between Real Madrid and San Lorenzo, which ended 2-0 to Los Blancos, but Pedro Pinto insists the forward's actions were not deliberate.

"There wasn't any issue. Cristiano Ronaldo had already greeted Platini before going to receive the Silver Ball," he said in a statement to Diario de Noticias.

"When he returned to the pitch to collect his medal with the rest of the team, Michel Platini was speaking with Carlo Ancelotti and Ronaldo proceeded without greeting him.

"For our part, I guarantee that there is no controversy in this case. I spoke to Platini, and he only told me he was sad because people thought he didn't like Cristiano."

Reports had initially linked Ronaldo's refusal to shake Platini's hand with earlier comments made by the Frenchman, in which he suggested that the 2014 FIFA Ballon d'Or should be won by a German.
