Juanfran: Atleti for the humble

Juanfran took issue with Sergio Ramos' comments prior to Real Madrid's recent Club World Cup triumph. "If they're God's team, Atleti are for the humble."

In his Press conference ahead of Saturday's final against San Lorenzo, the defender claimed Los Blancos enjoyed divine support, leading the Spanish champions' full-back to accuse the stopper of being arrogant in his demeanour.

"If Madrid are God's team, Atletico are for the humble, hardworking people, who have a lot of heart," he told Onda Cero.

"El Cholo [Diego Simeone] gave me a warm embrace but expressed his anger [at half-time against Athletic Bilbao].

"We did very well to score early after the break. We changed our system to 4-4-2 and the Coach told us we had to improve.

"This squad is very positive and we're convinced that we're going to get even better.

"We're not losing our [champions] essence, we'll always help to protect one another … We play one way or another but always give what's in our hearts.

"I understand the anger of the Athletic players [following Raul Garcia's penalty]. When there are actions which don't favour you, it bothers you.

"However, you need to help referees. Last week I shook the hand of the ref who waved away Mandzukic goal, which was legal. We could've won the game with it.

"2014 was very nice, but I think 2015 will just as good or better. We're staying calm."
