Contra: I’m staying… for now

Cosmin Contra staved off speculation regarding his future after Getafe's 1-1 draw with Granada on Sunday. "At the moment, I prefer to stay."

Chinese side Guangzhou R&F announced last week that they were due to hire the Romanian Coach in the New Year, but the former defender insisted his immediate concern remained Los Azulones in light of their stalemate with the Andalucians, although he stopped short of pledging his long-term commitment to the club.

"At the moment I prefer to stay," he was quoted as saying by VAVEL after the match.

"It was a balanced game in which we controlled the first 30 minutes of play. It's true that Granada were more dangerous towards the end [of the first half]. We made mistakes in defence which allowed them to score.

"In the second half, with the changes we made, the team improved and equalised. After that, both teams wanted to win, although we could have scored a second goal, especially through Pedro Leon.

"It wasn't to be though, and therefore the draw was fair. I have to say, the state of the pitch was lamentable. We're fortunate that only one of our players [Angel Lafita] got injured.

"It's a shame because the pitch jeopardises the integrity of the players who are the stars of this sport. I hope it improves because it also poses a risk for the Granada players."
