Contra: No Guangzhou deal yet

Getafe Coach Cosmin Contra has insisted there’s no agreement with Chinese side Guangzhou amid speculation he is to quit his post.

El Geta on Sunday meet Granada and it’s been mooted it could be Contra’s last game in charge with midfielder Michel also said to be targeted by Guangzhou, who have already announced Contra’s appointment.

“I’m not betraying anyone. Quite the opposite. It’s a difficult time for the club now. I’m very happy and if the contract isn’t settled, I’ll sit on the Getafe bench for the next game,” he said, AS reports.

“I like the offer and if there’s not an agreement, nothing happens. Until a contract is signed, I’m Gerafe Coach. When everything is formalised you can talk about the next Getafe Coach.”

AS add that the Madrid club are in need of the financial compensation Guangzhou would provide for poaching Contra, but the Romanian stressed his focus remains on the pitch.

“At the moment the contract isn’t signed and there is nothing official. I am Coach of Getafe and have a contract until 2016. I’m just thinking of beating Granada,” Contra continued.

“I don’t think Michel will leave if I’m not. It’s a joint operation. Whether he goes or not, with the departure of Mehdi Lacen for the Africa Cup of Nations, there’s the need to add in January. There’s a lot of games and we’d need to bring someone in.”
