Ramos ‘risked injury’ for Madrid

Sergio Ramos explained how he 'risked injury' on route to Real Madrid's victory in the Club World Cup final on Saturday.

The defender was a doubt ahead of the encounter with San Lorenzo due to a thigh setback, but he managed to complete 89 minutes in Marrakech before being replaced by Raphael Varane, and he admitted that helping his side to glory was worth the pain.

"It's a very special day for Real Madrid. This is the result of our efforts and having won the Champions League last season," he said to assembled journalists after the game.

"We dedicate it to everyone connected with Real Madrid. I honestly risked a lot to play the match. There was the risk of getting hurt again.

"I had a tear [in my thigh] but fortunately it's cleared up and been worthwhile. On a personal level I'm very happy. I try to give my best and contributed in the form of goals.

"We've earned a title which we didn't win for a long time. It's for Real Madrid and my family.

"When you're lucky enough to score, you feel a little better. Above all, though, success is work of the collective. From the beginning it was very clear to us."
