Jemez: Espanyol game very important

Paco Jemez believes there are similarities between Rayo Vallecano and Espanyol and feels the fixture is very important.

Rayo come into the game on the back of a Copa del Rey defeat to Valencia, Jemez’s side losing out in a titanic struggle, but he told a Press conference the midweek contest has only enthused his team.

“We’re eager after the great game in Valencia. We want to show that at least. We’ve got a tough team ahead of us and they can cause us a lot of pain,” he said, AS reports.

“The team is in a good dynamic. I see us concentrating because with the holidays coming often unintentionally people switch off. I’m almost convinced we’ll have a great game.

“Espanyol have gone from strength to strength. They score a lot of goals in the final minutes. That means they concentrate. Goals late usually appear due to fatigue or inattention.

“They’re in a calm place, like us. It’s a very important game. If we win we can do more important things that staying up.”

Jemez, who also discussed a potential contract renewal at Vallecas, suggested Rayo wouldn’t be active in the upcoming transfer window.

“If the club think some players should be on their way out, that could happen. And if the players to join are no better than those we have then no one will come,” he predicted.

“We have enough in the squad. I will give my opinion but not on the economic aspect and I don’t even think about that.”
