Sergio: It was mission accomplished

Espanyol boss Sergio Gonzalez said it was mission accomplished after his side’s 1-0 home win over Alaves in the Copa del Rey.

Los Pericos were 2-0 up from the first leg and eased into the last 16 with Jairo’s goal on 65 minutes sealing things at the Power8 Stadium, where just 5,118 supporters turned up to watch the encounter.

However, Sergio had praise for those that did attend and also his players’ second-half display.

“First of all I have to thank the brave fans who turned up,” he told the post-match Press conference.

“We knew we were going to suffer a bit in this game and we started off a bit cold and even played with fire, although we reacted well after the break when we were more controlled.

“Now we must focus on the La Liga game with Rayo Vallecano, which is very important.

“They say that there isn’t two without three [in reference to Espanyol’s winning streak], so we’ll see if we are capable of doing it,” he asserted.
