Metzelder: Reus should join Madrid

Former Real Madrid defender Christoph Metzelder believes Marco Reus should join Los Blancos and reject overtures from Barcelona.

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Reus is a target for both Spanish giants and Metzelder, who played for Madrid between 2007 and 2010, was forthright with his advice to the 25-year-old German international.

“If Reus has to choose between Real Madrid and Barcelona then I think Madrid would be the easiest choice,” he declared in an interview with Bild.

“Madrid are a more global team than Barca, who signify Catalonia and are more regional, while they also prefer to rely on bringing their younger players through.

“It’s also true that at Madrid he wouldn’t have much room to manoeuvre because they have a lot of attacking options, but if there is one club capable of accommodating him then it’s them.”

Reus has a contract at Dortmund that expires in 2017 but has intimated he would welcome a move, with the Bundesliga outfit having struggled so far this term.

Bayern Munich are also interested in acquiring his signature but it is believed he would prefer a move to La Liga.
