Benzema: I’d like to play for Zidane

Karim Benzema says that one day he would like to play under Zinedine Zidane, particularly if it was with Real Madrid.

In an interview with France Football, the Madrid striker also said he was delighted at the spirit boss Carlo Ancelotti had brought to the club since taking the reins at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“I hope one day Zidane will Coach me at Real Madrid. I got a close look at him last season, when he was assistant, and we spent a lot of time together,” said the Frenchman.

“He contributed a lot both in a sporting and human sense because he is a good person, someone I consider a brother. I really hope he coaches the first team one day.

“With Carlo Ancelotti he has removed the pressure that can weigh on players at a club like Madrid. He has that calmness that transmits itself to the team.”

Benzema was also full of praise for teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and, unsurprisingly, believes the Portuguese is the best player in the world.

“Beyond his immense talent there is also a workmanlike side to him and I’ve learned a lot by playing alongside him.

“You can’t achieve success like he has without hard work and without being a perfectionist at every level, above all with the small details.

“He doesn’t neglect anything and that’s also why he is currently the world’s greatest player,” he maintained.

The 26-year-old said that on a personal level things could not be going better.

“I’m scoring more and want to continue scoring. I also participate more in the play and am in good physical shape.

“I’m free from injury and getting playing time, while the more I play the better I feel and am more confident.

“My game is also reinforced by the confidence of my teammates, the Coach, the President and the fans.”
