Enrique lauds Barca mentality

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique was quick to praise the attitude of his players following the 8-1 Copa del Rey thrashing of minnows Huesca.

Besides qualifying for the last 16 of the tournament, Enrique felt the youngsters he selected produced a great display and took the game seriously, despite being 4-0 up from the first leg.

“I would like to praise the whole team for the mentality showed in a match, with all due respect to our opponents, where they had little incentive,” he told a post-match Press conference.

“I was also surprised at the number of fans who came to support us and the players were very good, both in their individual and collective obligations.

“These are not easy games to play in and it was a boost for everyone.”

He also explained why he had chosen Martin Montoya for the game and kept him on the pitch for the whole 90 minutes, with the defender widely expected to quit the Camp Nou in the January transfer window,.

“I selected him because I’ve seen the level he’s been at in training and I know his capabilities.

“Any player can turn his situation around. Like the rest of his teammates who played in this game, he did so at a great level.”
