Emery wary of Borussia

Sevilla boss Unai Emery has warned of the dangers posed by Borussia Monchengladbach after the Europa League draw.

The Andalusians have been paired with the Bundesliga outfit in the last 32 of the competition and Emery was at pains to acknowledge the quality of opponent his team would be up against.

“Borussia play at a very high level, along with a number of other sides [in the draw], and if we had to face each other today, seeing where the two teams are in the table, we would be talking about a Champions League clash,” he told reporters.

“However, it’s difficult to know how we will both be in February but we’ll face this tie with the utmost enthusiasm and respect.

“We’ll be playing a team with great potential, which they are proving in a League as strong as the German one, but we mustn’t forget what this competition also means to Sevilla.

“German teams have always been characterised by their physical and tactical strength, but in recent years they have been opening up to more technical players, and the best example of this is their national team.

“Borussia have made a great leap in the last two seasons and established themselves in the European places. They don’t concede many goals and have players up front with great mobility.

“The fact they finished first in their group ahead of Villarreal is another factor to consider,” warned Emery.
