Butragueno optimistic over Schalke

Emilio Butragueno says he is confident of Real Madrid progressing into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Los Blancos have been drawn against Bundesliga outfit Schalke in the last 16 and the club’s director of institutional relations told AS he is positive about the outcome.

“We are cautiously optimistic. We had a good experience playing against Schalke last year and settled the tie in the first leg, although sometimes football can be cruel.

“They have a very loyal set of supporters and I think we’ll have to decide the game in Madrid.

“There were more difficult opponents we could have faced and we have experienced what happens when there is a dip in concentration, but we hope to be in the quarter-finals.”

The former Madrid striker also referred to this week’s Club World Cup in Morocco.

“We want to be in Saturday’s final and finish off a very good year with another trophy, after which we have to prepare for January and some very tough games.”
