Luis Enrique: We can beat City

Luis Enrique believes his Barcelona team will progress past the last 16 of the Champions League after being drawn against Manchester City.

However, the Barca boss feels Manuel Pellegrini’s men will be prove a difficult obstacle to overcome and is particularly wary of the threat posed by Sergio Aguero.

“They will be tough opponents, one of the hardest we could have faced, and are candidates to lift the trophy,” Enrique told a Press conference.

“We will need to analyse them but this game takes place in February and things can change before then, so we’ll see how it goes.

“One thing for sure is that it will be an equal game. They are one of the favourites, like us, and have strengthened greatly.

“There is a group of players who are at a very high level and among them is Aguero, although they are all beneath Lionel Messi, but the differences are so small and that will depend on us.

“Even so, I always think positively and I reckon we’ll progress into the next round. The fact that the return leg is at the Camp Nou could be advantageous, although it will not be decisive.”

Enrique also touched upon the gap Real Madrid have opened up at the top of the La Liga table, yet considers it is still too early in the season for it to make such a difference.

“If anyone could guarantee me what will happen between now and the end of the season we might notice, but four points are not insurmountable and we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

“I hope the team continues to evolve as the months pass. I see a great attitude from my players and they are eager to win things,” he concluded.
