Valverde satisfied with Sociedad draw

Athletic Bilbao boss Ernesto Valverde said he was satisfied with the point taken in the 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad in the Basque derby.

Los Leones went behind to an early Carlos Vela strike at Anoeta but rescued a point when Oscar de Marcos levelled things just after the hour mark, with Valverde feeling it was good to collect something positive from the game following last week’s shock home defeat to Cordoba.

“We needed something positive after what happened the other day and our intention was to put that behind us,” he told a Press conference.

“However, we didn’t stand up to what was required in the first half and their pressure forced us to play a more long-ball game.

“I included Unai Gomez in the starting line-up because I wanted to win this game, and he did well, because I needed a different type of player up front,” explained Valverde.
