Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone believed the difference between the teams in his side’s 1-0 home loss to Villarreal was in the finishing.

Luciano Vietto’s winner six minutes from time condemned Atleti to a first home defeat of the season, but the Argentine remained philosophical about the defeat.

“Both sides had the same number of opportunities and whichever one took theirs had the best chance of winning the game,” Simeone told reporters.

“They won it with a goal from Vietto and I’m happy for him, despite the fact it’s more than a year since we’ve been beaten here.

“Perhaps in the last 20 minutes we had a few misses, but their play on the counter-attack for the goal was beautiful so we should congratulate our opponents and get ready for the next game.

“Vietto’s turn was very good and it was a really quick piece of play, although I got the feeling our team was very divided at the time,” he maintained.
