‘Derby old news to Espanyol’

Sergio Gonzalez insisted Espanyol had moved on from their defeat to Barcelona last weekend. "The derby's old news to us."

Los Periquitos crashed to a 5-1 reverse in the Catalan derby seven days ago, but ahead of their encounter with Granada – who arrive on the back of a 10-match winless streak in La Liga – the Coach stressed his players were solely focused on the job at hand.

"If we play at the level we really can, we'll give joy to the fans," he said at a Press conference.

"The derby's old news to us. Football's lived in the present and now it's Granada, Granada and Granada. We had a painful few days, but we must look forward.

"We want to compensate for this result with a result which can compensate.

"Maybe Granada's slump means they'll come here to hold on with great desire, but I hope they don't find it comfortable.

"If we get something positive, it'll give us a qualitative leap up the table as the team will have been dealt a boost. We're in optimal condition.

"[Joaquin] Caparros has all my respect. We've had our quarrels in the past, but now I only see the good in him. You always learn from other Coaches.

"Our fans have always been an example of how to behave and cheer on their team. Violence must be eliminated, so all that is done in this regard is welcome."
