Simeone coy on Torres return

Diego Simeone remained coy on the prospect of Fernando Torres returning to Atletico Madrid. "Talking about another team's player wouldn't be fair."

Reports over the weekend suggested that the former Rojiblancos favourite could be set for sensational move back to Vicente Calderon, but the Coach, although preferring to focus on his own club's players, refused to rule out such a transfer.

"I have to be very respectful of my squad. Talking about another team's player wouldn’t be fair," he said at a Press conference today.

"I'm only focused on my club's business, my lads. Tomorrow’s opponents play some of the best football in Spain.

"Fernando knows me, and he's aware that the most important thing are the guys already with us.

"I only focus on the players who have to win the game. I'm the Coach and I'm only focused on helping the team win.

"This week we’ve been working towards the Villarreal game, only that."

Ex-Atleti goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was voted the 2014 Belgian Sportsman of the Year this week, and Simeone paid tribute to his former charge.

"It makes me happy when I see a player who has shown a great deal of commitment to us experience something like this," he added.

"He's a lad who grew a lot in the three years he was here. He deserves everything he and his family are getting.

"I send him my best regards. He’s one of the best, and last season he was really important."
