Angel Correa is finally an Atletico Madrid player after being given the all-clear to complete his cut-price €5.6m transfer to the Spanish champions.
The 19-year-old agreed a five-year contract with Los Rojiblancos in June but was soon diagnosed with a benign tumour in the ventricle of his heart and had to undergo surgery in New York to correct the problem.
Consequently, his move remained in limbo until he made a full recovery, but having been given medical clearance to resume his career, Correa is now free to start at Vicente Calderon.
"There's nothing to write home about. The initial agreement has been maintained and only the payments have been deferred," San Lorenzo President Matias Lammens was quoted as saying by AS on Thursday.
"Atletico's leaders were in Buenos Aires on December 10 to sign the papers, and it was agreed that the first payment would be made in January. In total, San Lorenzo will receive €5.6m."
It is thought that San Lorenzo were keen to conclude talks before their participation in the Club World Cup, with the capital giants negotiating a 10 percent reduction in Correa's transfer fee.
AS add that Correa will initially be loaned out to Rayo Vallecano in January, although he is not expected to feature in La Liga until after representing Argentina in the Under-20 South American Championship, which finishes on February 7.
