‘Villarreal made easy work of win’

Marcelino praised the simplicity of Villarreal's 2-0 victory at Apollon Limassol in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Yellow Submarine secured their passage into the last 32 courtesy of their win in Cyprus, and the Coach was delighted with how his side flew out of the blocks and could subsequently afford to 'think about Atletico Madrid' during the match.

"We wanted to win here and knew what was going to happen in Germany, but in football strange things can happen," he said after the game.

"We had a very good attitude and with that we went 2-0 up before half-time. We ran the clock down in the second half. We started fairly quickly and reached the opponents' goal.

"At 2-0 up we began to think about Atletico [Sunday's opponents], so we made two changes at half-time and passed the time.

"We want to win this competition, but it's going to be hard. Let's go step by step and see if we're lucky in the draw.

"Hopefully we won't face an overly-complicated side, so we can progress into the last 16."
