Negredo: Players have responsibility

Alvaro Negredo has weighed in on the debate over football violence and fan behaviour, the Valencia striker saying the players have a responsibility too.

Negredo was the target of obscene chants during the draw with Granada, AS say, and he has given his take on the situation when speaking at a Press conference.

“I didn’t hear what was said because I was focused on what I needed to be,” the on-loan Manchester City striker said.

“There is a tendency to eradicate everything that can generate violence and insults, whether major or minor, should be removed because there are children who will copy what they see.

“Sometimes it’s the players who create tension. There are times when people go crazy at a match because of what they’ve seen on the pitch.

“If you’re going to expel anyone who is insulting at moments like that then the stadiums will be empty.”

Negredo also compared the situation in Spain with that of England, where, he says, the idea of football is different and more family-friendly.

“The feeling of insecurity with the police vans accompanying the buses doesn’t happen in England because the people see football differently,” he lamented.

“The sport, family, to enjoy, it’s another culture. There, the fans can go [to the match] in the shirt of their team without fear.”
