‘Atleti and Bayern are Madrid’s rivals’

Iker Casillas has claimed that Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich are Real Madrid's biggest rivals in the Champions League this season.

Los Blancos are striving to become the first club to successfully defend the European Cup in the modern era, but the goalkeeper believes the German giants and his side's city foes pose more of a threat than the likes of Barcelona on the continent.

"Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are our rivals in domestic competitions, and I think they'll both fight until the end for the League," he was today quoted as saying by AS.

"We also hope [to fight for La Liga] because we're doing really well at the moment. In Europe? Bayern and Atletico Madrid.

"We've done well this year and what better way to put the icing on the cake [than win the Club World Cup]?"

Casillas then moved on to the topic of his international career with Spain and vowed to continue representing La Roja for the foreseeable future.

"I feel great and I'll happily continue to be at Vicente del Bosque's disposal because defending my country is very important to me," he added.

"The prospect of playing at a European Championship also makes me want to forget the ordeal of the World Cup in Brazil.

"I'm lucky to have won important things with both Real Madrid and Spain.

"When you see the fans celebrating because their team have just won a title, it makes you want to win more."
