James hamstring injury confirmed

Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez will miss the Club World Cup after sustaining a hamstring injury during Saturday's 3-0 victory over Celta Vigo.

The capital club confirmed in a statement on their official website that the Colombian visited the Sanitas La Moraleja clinic on Monday morning to undergo the relevant medical tests, the results of which showed a first-degree strain in his right calf muscle.

Although the diagnosis is not overly serious, James is expected to spend the week recovering from the knock, meaning he will not be available for selection in Morocco.

Carlo Ancelotti admitted yesterday that the 23-year-old's chances of featuring in the tournament looked slim.

The Madrid Coach told Sport Mediaset: "I don't think James will play. It's hard to recover from injury in two days."
