‘Depor on path to self-destruction’

Victor Fernandez admitted Deportivo La Coruna were 'on the path to self-destruction' following their 1-0 defeat to Malaga on Saturday.

The Galicians succumbed to their first-ever loss at home to Los Boquerones in Week 14, but the Coach was more concerned with the direction his team were heading in as many of the club's fans vented their fury towards President Tino Fernandez during the match.

"I'm an employee of the club and it's very sad. First, it's because of the defeat which my players did not deserve," he lamented after the final whistle.

"Then there was an atmosphere of destruction which I've never seen anywhere before. I don't know where we're heading.

"The evening was not so much about football but other things, and that's why I'm devastated.

"I think we're heading for an absolutely unstoppable path of self-destruction."

Looking back on the encounter, Fernandez felt Depor were unlucky not to have earned at least a point for their efforts and refused to throw in the towel on the side's fight for survival.

"We did everything to win, I can only thank my players for giving their utmost," he added.

"We had clear chances, insisted on playing our game and took lots of risks, but the ball didn't want to go in.

"The result didn't reflect what Depor had done, and I'm sad about that.

"As professionals, we can't give up. We have to fight together and stay united."
