Report: Atleti to send Correa to Rayo

Atletico Madrid will loan Angel Correa to Rayo Vallecano in January after the forward recovered from heart surgery.

The champions signed the Argentine from San Lorenzo over the summer but a heart problem was detected during his medical.

Correa underwent surgery to correct the issue and was able to resume training with Atletico in November.

But Atletico’s three non-EU player spots are full and they won’t be able to register the 19-year-old for the rest of the season.

Rayo have a gap in their squad and a good relationship with Atletico, which could pave the way for Correa to go to Vallecas, AS reports.

The loan would have the added benefit of Correa being able to remain in Madrid, allowing Atletico to keep a close eye on him following his health problem.

Rayo currently have two Atleti players in their squad, Emiliano Insua and Leo Baptistao, and it’s felt they did a good job working with Saul Niguez.

There is the chance that Correa is called up by the Argentina Under-20s for the various youth international fixtures in January, however, and so Paco Jemez wouldn’t get to work with the player until after those games are completed.
