Asensio to cost Madrid more?

Real Mallorca are reportedly holding out for more money from Real Madrid for the signing of Marco Asensio after interest from Barcelona.

AS reports a fee of €3.7m had been agreed between the clubs and the island club were expected to sign off on the transfer after a Wednesday board meeting.

However, Gabriel Cerda, the club President, wants Madrid to pay Asensio’s €4.5m release clause, with the change in heart coming after Barcelona expressed an interest in the winger and suggested they would pay the stipulated fee.

Asensio has verbally committed to Madrid and has spoken with Florentino Perez, and it’s believed he would rather wait until the end of the season, when his contract expires, than go back on his word.

The 18-year-old would give up half-a-season in the Primera if he waited until the summer to leave and Mallorca would stand to miss out on a substantial amount of money as the fee Madrid pay would be dictated by tribunal.
