Emery to ring Sevilla changes

Sevilla boss Unai Emery will use Wednesday’s Copa del Rey second leg tie with Sabadell to give some of his fringe players playing time.

However, despite the Andalusians leading 6-1 from the first game, Emery insists it is “still important for some players” to stake a claim for more first-team opportunities.

“Some who haven’t played so much will get a chance as well as several youngsters,” he told a Press conference.

“The first leg was good for a lot of things in that players took part who then had continuity in the team, such as Jose Antonio Reyes and Iago Aspas.

“In addition, the respect we must have for this competition is vital and I want the Sanchez Pizjuan to see a game with rhythm where the fans can identify with the team.”

On the contractual status of Reyes, who was outstanding in the victory over Granada at the weekend, Emery refused to be drawn.

“Nobody is assured of a contract renewal because it is the performances that decide. He didn’t just do well on Sunday but has been playing like that for two months,” explained Emery, who admitted he had a problem in midfield with injury to Vicente Iborra.

“I want to avoid playing Grzegorz Krychowiak and Stephane M’Bia because there has been a great wear and tear on them, so I’ll pick Sebastian Cristoforo as he is ready to play.

“Players from the reserve team will also feature, such as Luismi, Tena and Cotan.”
