Inter step up Cerci interest

Inter have confirmed they are interested in bringing Atletico Madrid winger Alessio Cerci back to Serie A.

The Italy international joined Atleti from Torino for €16m at the beginning of September but has struggled to break into Diego Simeone’s side this season, making just five La Liga appearances but failing to start a single game.

It is a state of affairs that has forced the 27-year-old to consider his future at the Vicente Calderon, and Inter chief executive Marco Fassone has admitted his club are monitoring Cerci’s situation.

“A club such as ours must be attentive to the market opportunities for players who are out of contract or unhappy at their clubs.

“Cerci’s profile certainly conforms to our needs, given he is Italian, knows Serie A and also has quality,” he told Corrierre dello Sport.

However, the main obstacle concerning a possible return to Italy is economic, with Atleti looking to recoup most of the money they paid for the player.

“Right now it’s difficult to see Cerci with us because of the financial parameters. We have not spoken with Atletico,” said Fassone.
