Butragueno encouraged by Jese

Emilio Butragueno was full of praise for Jese Rodriguez’s return to action in the 5-0 Copa del Rey win over Cornella

The youngster came on as a second-half substitute for Sami Khedira and 20 minutes later notched Madrid’s fifth of the night as they recorded a 9-1 aggregate victory.

“I must admit I was struck by Jese’s audacity and it didn’t look as if he’d been out for such a long time,” the club’s director of institutional relations told reporters.

“The 30 minutes he was on the pitch were very encouraging and Carlo [Ancelotti] has sent out a very positive message to the youngsters that the door is open.

“This team now has confidence and pride and in the first half it was James and Isco who made the difference.

“The deep passes, shots, Chicharito’s back-heel – the fans always go away happy because they see moves that live in the memory.”

Butragueno believes Madrid are now at their best since the arrival of Ancelotti.

“Carlo has remarkable importance and he has handled with great wisdom a squad of many resources, while moulding it into a team.

“Real Madrid are very happy with these players and this Coach,” he added.
