Tebas: LFP to eradicate Ultras

The Spanish League (LFP) has pledged to eradicate Ultra groups from La Liga within the next two years.

During an urgently convened meeting of the National Anti-violence Commission, following the death of a Deportivo la Coruna fan before the game with Atletico Madrid on Sunday, President Javier Tebas proposed a series of initiatives to rid the game of its violent factions.

“This is the end for the Ultras. We will get rid of them,” promised Tebas in comments reported by AS.

“The LFP will bring in new legislation that will see certain parts of grounds closed, the idea being that these are the areas usually frequented by radical groups.

“This law will be similar to that of UEFA which saw the closure of two sections of the Santiago Bernabeu earlier this season.

“The LFP plans to go further and, apart from chants of a racist nature, will punish anyone who insults another’s dignity.”

The LFP will also set up, in conjunction with the National Sports Council and the police, a database of Ultra groups, while any club aiding these groups will be immediately sanctioned.

Italy has been cited as a role model for the initiatives, with the intention being to ban away trips by any groups who are known to cause trouble.

Plans are also due to be put in place to regulate the sale of match tickets, with clubs only being allowed to give other clubs tickets with LFP approval.

At present the visitors should receive 5 per cent of the stadium capacity, although there are no controls over who is able to purchase these tickets.
