Alves: Defeat leaves a bad taste

Diego Alves rued Valencia's misfortune during their 1-0 defeat to Barcelona on Sunday but nonetheless insisted on 'taking positives' from the result.

Los Che seemingly secured a point at Mestalla until Sergio Busquets won the match for Barca deep in injury time, and the goalkeeper admitted that the nature of his side’s loss left a ‘bitter taste’ in his teammates’ mouths.

"I think we had very clear chances to score," he maintained when speaking to assembled journalists after the match.

"It was also a very physical game. We were out on the counter, and in the last kick of the game they managed to score against us.

"It's always difficult against Barca, and I think the team showed their face, but we left [Mestalla] with a bitter taste in our mouths.

"The team understood what the Coach wanted and we managed to play quickly from the wings, but we were unlucky not to score.

"They created much danger but only had a few shots at goal. That's football.

"You have to take positives from defeats like these. The League is very long and we want to be in and around the Champions League places."
