Simeone saddened by fighting

Diego Simeone condemned the fan violence prior to Atletico Madrid's 2-0 victory over Deportivo on Sunday, which resulted in the death of a supporter.

An unnamed Depor fan was the fatal consequence of supporter clashes in the build-up to the Liga meeting at the Vicente Calderon on Sunday, as he later died from cardiac arrest, hypothermia and head injuries in hospital.

"I'm hurt by the situation we are experiencing. We don't have any real arguments about what happened, but we're sad because of it," he lamented to reporters.

"This isn't football and we condemn this situation. Hopefully it won't be repeated.

"I was focusing on the game and had prioritised the match, so I didn't know what was going on outside.

"I'm wasn’t moving constantly. It's a social problem, not a football one.

"These are people who live for the shirt, the fans of a team, but it's a problem for society.

"The people who are qualified to make the appropriate decisions will work on it."

Regarding the match itself, Simeone admitted that Atleti managed to beat the Galicians despite not being at their best.

"We won the match without playing well," he added.

"Beyond the goals and the rare incident outside the stadium, Depor played intelligently. We didn't have the fluidity which we normally have."
