Moyes: Signs of improvement

David Moyes voiced his delight with Real Sociedad's 3-0 victory over Elche on Friday night, claiming that his side showed sufficient 'signs of improvement'.

Carlos Vela's hat-trick helped La Real to their first victory under the former Everton and Manchester United manager, while they also recorded back-to-back clean sheets for the first time this season, and the Scot revelled in the complete nature of his side’s display.

"We have a special talent in Carlos. There was no doubt as to who made all the difference tonight, and it's great because he made a crucial contribution in helping us win this match," he told reporters after the match.

"I'm satisfied with what I saw in my debut at Anoeta. There are things we still have to improve on, not surprisingly because the journey has only just started, but I liked the attitude of my players.

"I also believe that we've improved over my debut match at Riazor, and that's important because we want more. I can see that they want to learn and it's shown in their performances so far.

"All this is very good for the confidence of the team and the club. I've already seen signs of improvement, as not only were we good defensively to not concede a goal, but in attack we were very quick, dynamic and scored three goals."

However, Moyes expressed his concern with the number of empty seats in his first home game, along with the 'low tolerance levels' of Spanish referees.

"I'm happy with the fans, as they supported us throughout the match and the team felt their presence, but I must admit that they live for football in a different manner to how they do in England," he added.

"I hope my desire [to admit these differences] can be translated directly to the stands, so the fans can live with us during matches and feel closer. This way, there'll be more fans and no tickets left to sell for our games.

"We know we have to improve and give them things to cheer about, but we'll do our best."

"The ref didn't like me. I've only overseen two matches in La Liga, but I can already see the differences with English football in regards to refereeing.

“I see that their tolerance level is too low, something which I think doesn't favour physical football.

"I ask my players to be intense and aggressive and on top of their opponents."
