Moyes explains McKinlay appointment

Billy McKinlay’s ‘dynamism and enthusiasm’ make him an ideal Real Sociedad assistant, according to David Moyes.

The former Scotland international, who most recently had a spell in charge of Championship side Watford, has agreed to become his compatriot’s No 2 at Estadio Anoeta.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of La Real’s encounter with Elche in La Liga on Friday night, Moyes explained the motives behind his decision to appoint McKinley.

"We already have Asier Santana, but I wanted to have an assistant from the UK too,” he considered to assembled journalists.

"I haven't worked with McKinlay before, but he has a long history [in football]. He's very dynamic and enthusiastic, and for those reasons I'm happy to have him here, but I also want to keep Asier.

"There's no risk because I've known Billy for 20 years. I knew him from my time at Preston, when he was an international player.

"I want both Asier and Billy, and with them I have a team with a lot of energy behind me.

"The next few months are vital, and in order for us to train in small group, I need good coaches.

"It's not yet confirmed, because it takes time for Spanish lawyers to ratify these things, but I hope to have some news in the next 48 hours.

"I don't think I need to hire anyone else for my backroom staff."
