Isco: I know what Madrid need

Isco has assured Real Madrid that he 'understands very well' what the team need in Luka Modric's absence.

The 22-year-old has started Los Blancos' last two matches in place of the Croatian, who picked up an injury on international duty a fortnight ago.

Despite not being a deep-lying midfielder by trade, Isco insists he knows what is required of him and will grasp his latest opportunity with both hands.

"I feel great physically and I understand very well what the team need," he told reporters after the match.

"It's easy to play with these players and we've put together an incredible streak.

"Modric's injury is a shame because he's a player who gives us a lot, but we have a large squad and I’ve said to the Coach that I’ll play in any position.

"We were tight enough [against Basel] and pushed high up. We may not have had a brilliant game but it was important to get the three points."

Madrid could set a new club record against this weekend, as they look to surpass their best-ever streak of 15 straight victories, but it may come against Isco’s former employers Malaga.

"It's always special to go home. Malaga gave me everything, but football is my job and I have to defend another jersey,” the Spaniard concluded.
