Diego Simeone has expressed his happiness Atletico Madrid are through to the Champions League knockout rounds after a stylish win over Olympiacos.
Last season’s runners-up booked a place in the next stage by beating the Greeks 4-0 through a Raul Garcia goal and Mario Mandzukic’s hat-trick.
Speaking to reporters after the match, Cholo said the victory is a result of the players’ understanding of the match what is required from them.
“The players have been able to interpret the best way to hurt the opponent and play good football,” he said, AS reports.
“We knew we needed the win to achieve the objective of the club, to go into the next round, and in a very tough group we had to respond to a great rival.
“We don’t know any other way to play, no matter the competition.
“It’s true we were very strong. We created a lot of chances and it’s important we scored, because it’s no good if you create chances but don’t score.
“We always look for the best ways we can hurt our opponents. Arda Turan is in great form, gives us a lot, and Juanfran is still in great form. He’s a national team player.
“We were wondering if Mandzukic would play. He’s done very well, scored, which is very important for a striker, but what matters is the team.”
