Ancelotti turned down United claim

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti turned down Manchester United twice, according to a report in Marca.

The Reds allegedly tried to sign Ancelotti in 2013 when it became clear he would not be staying on as boss at Paris Saint-Germain, but the Italian is believed to have told Sir Alex Ferguson first hand that he preferred to join Madrid.

History repeated itself in June this year when United were looking for a permanent successor to the sacked David Moyes, former player Ryan Giggs have taken the reins on the Scots’ departure, but they were once again rebuffed.

This time Ancelotti did not even bother meeting with anybody from Old Trafford after steering the Spanish giants to the Decima against Atletico Madrid in Lisbon, while the Premier League outfit eventually turned their sights to Louis van Gaal.

Ancelotti is set to sign a new deal at the Santiago Bernabeu and is due to meet with club President Florentino Perez to thrash out the finer points of the agreement.
