Escriba laments ‘lost opportunity’

Fran Escriba lamented Elche’s ‘lost opportunity’ following their 2-2 draw with Cordoba on Sunday night.

La Liga’s bottom club stunned their hosts by taking a two-goal lead at Estadio Martinez Valero, but despite rallying in the second half to salvage a point, the Coach was visibly frustrated with Los Franjiverdes’ failure to grasp a victory.

"I think we did enough to win, but considering we came back from 2-0 down, I have to be happy with the result," he was quoted as saying by EFE.

"Barring roughly the first 15 minutes of the game, I'm not unhappy with our performance.

"A point against the bottom team doesn't leave me with much happiness, but the competition is extremely close.

"I'm convinced Elche will earn points at venues where we think we're not going to, but this draw is a lost opportunity, which makes me angry.

"Sometimes a player can choose the wrong option, and all our hard work can be wasted, so we did well to find the equaliser.

"Jonathas is a great striker and he came here for that reason, but his goals are thanks to the work of the team."
