Lopez: Madrid always in my heart

Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Diego Lopez has looked back on his time at the club and revealed he hopes to one day return.

Lopez left Santiago Bernabeu for Milan at the start of the season, having dislodged Iker Casillas as first-choice in the League for much of his 18 months at the club.

“I am very happy and very content. Things are going well individually. I was very happy in Madrid, where I had a fantastic year-and-a-half,” he told Onda Cero after the Milan derby, Marca reports.

“Madrid is a club I will always have in my heart. I hope when I retire I can return as an employee.”

Lopez was asked for his thoughts on comments made by Xabi Alonso, who rated Manuel Neuer as a better goalkeeper than Casillas and suggested Cristiano Ronaldo shouldn’t win the Ballon d’Or this year.

“Xabi shares a dressing room with Neuer and he is a great goalkeeper, no doubt,” Lopez acknowledged.

“His opinions should be respected and they’re not entirely unfounded as Neuer is a great goalkeeper.
