‘Rayo will lose playing like that’

Paco Jemez was highly critical of Rayo Vallecano despite seeing his side claim a 1-0 win over Celta Vigo.

Alberto Bueno scored the only goal of the game early in the first half but Jemez laid into his team when he spoke to reporters following the final whistle.

“It’s always important to win and it’s a cause for joy, but my face is not that of a guy who just won,” AS reports Jemez saying.

“I want to see the team I want to see. We have been against a very good opponent, who have pressed us and made it difficult.

“We have been able to keep a clean sheet and although we won, the game wasn’t as imagined.

“I’m happy when the team plays well and today we have done one part well and the other we haven’t. We won, okay, but I need something more, because playing like today we will lose more than we win.

“I never comment if the results are fair or not. You can play well and lose. To win you have to score goals and Celta didn’t.

“We haven’t had control of the game or the ball. I want a team to do what we train. I understand that the opposition will make things difficult but at least we have to try.

“I’m not happy. It’s important to win, no doubt, but more important is the players do what I think they are capable of.”

Jemez took no comfort from Rayo reaching the 14-point mark in their 12th game, calling for more points and better performances.

“I still don’t think we can be happy with 14 points. This team can get more points and better performances,” he insisted.

“Compared to last year we are much better but this team should demand more because then we could get somewhere.”
