The grandfather of Gerard Pique, Amador Bernabeu, believes Lionel Messi knows he always has a home at Barcelona.
Bernabeu is has been a Barca member for 50 years and was previously a club vice-President, and was asked for his take on Messi’s situation amid speculation last week that the Argentine, who on Saturday became La Liga’s record scorer, may not be entirely happy at Camp Nou.
“Messi knows this is his home and I know that from the locker room itself. Messi’s words can be interpreted in different ways,” he told Canal+, AS reports.
“I’ve known him since he was 11 and he knows this is his home, he knows he was born here and he knows these are his fans.
“We’ll have to see because everyone is human and Messi is a sensitive person. If one day he’s jeered or it’s ‘Messi no’ in the Press then maybe he’ll make a decision.
“But I think we have to have Messi because he’s the best in the world and we have to keep him here.”
