Cholo ‘happy’ for Atletico

Diego Simeone was happy with Atletico Madrid’s win over Malaga – happy for the team and a number of the players.

The champions dispatched Javi Gracia’s visitors thanks to goals from Tiago Mendes, Antoine Griezmann and Diego Godin, with Roque Santa Cruz netting for Malaga.

“I am very happy with Tiago’s presence. The difference between him and the rest is he is tactically the best at interpreting the game,” Cholo said, AS reports.

“I though Raul Gimenez did fine. I left him out of the last few games but he will grow and become a major player because he is competitive.

“He had three chances to score. I’m happy for him.

“Griezmann and Arda Turan played well. The team played a serious game, closed down well and didn’t leave any spaces.

“We didn’t have a good start to the second half. There wasn’t the same hard work and intensity.

“Then we grew and reacted well to their goal. We understood that putting Griezmann and Arda wide allowed us to counter well.

“Jose Gimenez did well with Godin. I’m happy for him.”
