Sergio hoping for another Athletic win

Espanyol Coach Sergio is hopeful of recording a third-straight away win against Athletic Bilbao when the sides meet on Friday night.

The Catalans have won on their last two visits to San Mames and this season have been better on the road than they have been at their own Cornella El-Prat home.

“I’m happy to take the blame for that. We have to rediscover our form and perhaps Athletic aren’t the best opponent for that, but hopefully the streak will go in our favour,” Sergio said, Marca reports.

“Athletic’s arrow is up from recent games. They try to play from defence but can also surprise with direct balls to Aduriz. For them, he is a central reference to the team.

“We’re always looking for a balanced team and we’re missing that away from home.”

Sergio also gave an update on the fitness of Hector Moreno, who suffered a broken leg playing for Mexico at the World Cup.

“His return has been enormous and his recovery time is a lot shorter,” Sergio said of the defender.

“But with a player like him, he can only play at 100% and we can’t allow him to if he’s not at his maximum. He’s a few weeks from being at the top level.”
