Ruben: Valencia derby important

Levante midfielder Ruben Garcia believes the derby with Valencia this weekend is the most important game of the season.

The build-up to the game has been overshadowed by a row between the two clubs over the cost of tickets for the visiting Valencia fans, although Ruben insists it is something the players have remained isolated from.

“The derby is a crunch match for the fans and I’d say it is the most important game of the season,” he told Mundo Deportivo.

“We are playing well and are going to try and win, as we appreciate it is a clash that is contested by the city, one for the fans, but we have had to keep away from everything that has happened off the pitch because we need these three points.”

The 21-year-old highlighted Valencia’s good start to the season and discounted the idea that their performance level has dipped of late.

“Valencia have reinforced greatly and obviously have a very solid and strong team. They are almost scoring three goals every game and will make it really difficult.

“But we have also improved and the best team will win. Hopefully that will be us,” he maintained.
